What is the Employee Retention Credit?
The CARES Act introduced the Employee Retention Credit (ERC), a tax credit designed to incentivize businesses to retain their employees by providing relief. This tax credit is refundable, and they expanded under the Consolidated Appropriations Act, which became effective on January 1, 2021. Due to this expansion, all employers receiving PPP loans may qualify for the ERC for 2020 and 2021.

Who Qualifies For ERC?
To qualify for the ERC, an employer must meet at least one of two alternative requirements. These are as follows:
1. The employer's business was fully or partially suspended during 2020 or 2021 by government order due to COVID-19.
2. The employer's gross receipts in 2020 are below 50% and below 20% in 2021, compared to the comparable quarter in 2019.
