Why SDO CPA?

We focus on tax planning, not just tax filing. That’s the difference between compliance and strategy. We start conversations in October with ideas that may reduce what you owe—before year-end, when there’s still time to act.

  • Focus: Partnerships and S-Corps are approximately 80% of our practice.
  • Proactive: We bring you ideas. You don’t have to ask.
  • Responsive: You’ll hear back within 1 business day.
  • Year-round: We plan taxes year-round so April is boring.

Our Story

SDO CPA was founded in 2022 with a simple premise: small business owners deserve the same tax strategy that Fortune 500 companies get.

After 18+ years handling returns 10x more complex than most small businesses will ever see—including Big Four experience—Serena Do started SDO CPA to apply that expertise to owners who actually need it. The ones with partnerships, S-Corps, multiple entities, and real estate investments. The ones whose returns are too complex for seasonal preparers but not big enough for Big Four attention.

The result is a firm built around three principles:

  • Planning beats filing. The best tax work happens in October, not April. We plan year-round so you’re never scrambling.
  • Focus matters. We concentrate on partnerships and S-Corps. We don’t try to be everything to everyone.
  • Response time is part of service. You’ll hear back within 1 business day. Your CPA disappearing from May to January isn’t acceptable.

Our Approach

We focus on partnerships and S-Corps because concentrating in specific areas allows us to stay current on the rules that matter most to our clients. Many clients find opportunities for tax savings when we review their situation with fresh eyes.

What We Do

Our services fall into three categories: tax planning, tax compliance, and bookkeeping. Everything we do is designed to help you pay less in taxes and make decisions from accurate numbers.

Strategic Tax Planning

Year-round planning to minimize what you owe. Not just filing. Actual strategy.

  • Entity structure optimization
  • S-Corp reasonable salary planning
  • Partnership allocation strategies
  • Year-end tax moves
  • Quarterly estimated payment planning
  • Multi-entity coordination

Tax Preparation

Accurate returns filed on time. Complex situations handled correctly.

  • Partnership returns (Form 1065)
  • S-Corp returns (Form 1120-S)
  • Individual returns (Form 1040)
  • Multi-state filings
  • K-1 preparation and distribution
  • Extension and deadline management

Bookkeeping & Accounting

Monthly financials that support tax planning, not just compliance.

  • Monthly financial statements
  • Accounts payable management
  • Accounts receivable tracking
  • Bank reconciliations
  • Payroll processing
  • Chart of accounts setup

Advisory Services

Ongoing guidance for decisions that affect your taxes and business.

  • Entity selection (LLC vs S-Corp vs C-Corp)
  • Buy/sell transaction planning
  • Partner buyout structuring
  • Compensation optimization
  • Exit planning considerations
  • Financial statement analysis

What We Don’t Do

SDO CPA focuses on tax and accounting services. We do not provide audit, review, or attestation services. If you need financial statements audited or reviewed by an independent CPA, we can refer you to firms that specialize in that work.

Who We Work With

We work best with business owners who have outgrown basic tax prep but don’t need a 100-person firm. Here’s who we serve well:

Partnership Owners

Real estate investors, professional practices, and joint ventures with 2+ partners. If your K-1s are a mess or you’re not sure if your structure is optimal, we can help.

S-Corp Owners

Service business owners with $200K-$2M revenue. If you’re confused about reasonable salary, missing QBI deductions, or your CPA doesn’t explain anything, we’re a good fit.

Multi-Entity Owners

Holding company + operating company + personal returns. Multiple entities need coordinated strategy. One return affects the others. We look at the whole picture.

Our Ideal Client

  • Revenue: $150K to $5M annually
  • Entity: Partnership or S-Corp (not sole proprietorship)
  • Values: Expertise over price. Quality over speed.
  • Wants: A year-round relationship, not an annual transaction
  • Situation: Complex enough to benefit from focused expertise (multi-state, real estate, multiple entities)

We’re Probably Not the Right Fit If:

  • You need simple W-2 return preparation
  • Price is your primary selection criteria
  • You just want someone to sign off on your DIY work
  • Your business has under $100K in revenue

Our Approach

We believe the best tax work happens before year-end, not after. Here’s what that looks like in practice:

  • Year-round engagement: We reach out in October to discuss year-end planning opportunities while there’s still time to act.
  • Proactive communication: We bring ideas to you rather than waiting for questions.
  • Clear explanations: We explain what’s in your return and why, so you understand your tax situation.
  • Accessible service: We’re available throughout the year, not just during tax season.
  • Planning focus: We look for opportunities to optimize your tax position before filing.

Why Planning Matters

Tax planning decisions made in October can have a meaningful impact on your April return. We focus on identifying opportunities while there’s still time to implement them.
